Risk Assessment

Staff will, at all times, be aware of potential dangers to the children, and take steps to avoid potential danger, if at all possible. For example, the staff will take care when providing scissors to the children for an art activity, and will generally offer round-ended scissors. If pointed scissors are offered to enable a child to cut out difficult shapes, then that child will be supervised at all times until the pointed scissors are finished with and returned to the member of staff for safe keeping.

When the children play outside on the grass area or at the recreation ground, they will be accompanied by at least two members of staff. Other children playing in these areas will not be allowed to join the group attending the Club. If escorting children to the library, shops, etc. a ratio of 1:6 will apply.

Before play takes place on the grass area, a quick check will be carried out to ensure no dog fouling or other nuisance is present. Particular attention will be made for children using the swings or climbing frame to ensure that no accidents occur.

Staff will be made aware of running games, which may make the children extra hot and thus remind them to remove their jumpers etc, in order to cool down. Under these scenarios the staff are to provide plenty of liquid refreshments. Staff will also be aware of the potential for children to bang into each other or against a wall. These types of games will be strictly controlled, or avoided.

The Club staff will set out the tables and chairs before the children arrive. Toys and equipment will be checked on a daily basis. The floor will be checked on arrival for cleanliness and any potential dangerous objects.

Staff will follow the Club policies regarding Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, and Behaviour.
