Confidentiality Statement – Child Protection

The Club Supervisors have a substantial amount of contact time with the children in their care. They are therefore, in a good position to notice any signs of child abuse.

The four main types of abuse being

  • Physical
  • Emotional
  • Neglect
  • Sexual

It is important to be aware of any signs of a change in the child’s behaviour, these changes being recorded. Regular observation is key to determining behavioural change and incidents of concern such as:

  • Recurring themes in the child’s play or language
  • Incidents that provoke a behaviour change
  • How the child interacts with other children and adults
  • How the child acts towards their parents
  • Mood changes, and the time of change (e.g. home time)
  • Reactions to different routines such as physical education or swimming
  • Bruising, markings, breakages

The Club operates a confidential incident book that will hold all information of this nature. The incident report will be shown to the respective parent/carer who will be asked to sign the report. The incident report will include the following:

  • Name and age of child
  • Parent/Carer’s name
  • Date and time of record
  • A brief description of the observation
  • Description of any physical change
  • Description of any behavioural change
  • Input from the respective parent/carer

Observations would continue and if no changes were apparent then the Local Safe Guarding Childrens Board would be informed.

In the event that the staff suspected that a child was at risk to physical or sexual abuse then the Child Protection Officer would be informed as opposed to the child’s parent/carer.
