Child BehaviourThe Club expects the children to respect other children and the staff. The rules of the Club are read to all the children at the start of a new term and as and when they need reminding. Whilst good behaviour is encouraged at all times, the staff respect the individual child’s level of understanding and maturity. Bullying, whether verbal, physical or mental, will not be tolerated. If a child behaves in a manner that disrupts other children, then that child will be removed from the group and sat on a chair. The child will have five minutes to think about the incident and their behaviour. A member of staff will then discuss the situation with the child and if there are no further problems the child will continue with their activities. Good behaviour is encouraged by way of:
In the event that a child becomes upset a member of staff will approach the child and gently enquire as to the reason why. The staff member shall remain calm and patient when listening. If appropriate the child will be asked if any other children were involved in the incident, and who they were. If appropriate all parties involved will be asked to discuss the incident in order to resolve it. If the incident was of a continuous nature the child will be observed for a period of time. If no other children were involved, the member of staff will continue
talking to the child for a while to resolve the situation. The member
of staff is to avoid physical contact (however well meant) and to be within
sight of another member of staff. Having discussed the incident with the
child the member of staff will give the child an activity. The incident
will be recorded and the respective parent/carer will be informed when
the child is collected and be asked to sign the incident record. |
